Coriander is commonly used in food preparations. It is also a powerful herb which has many health benefits. Commonly known as Dhania in the Indian Subcontinent and Cilantro in the Americas and some part of Europe, the leafy herb is
used in most cuisines and the seeds taken from these leaves are known as coriander. Native to southwestern Asia and west to North Africa, the herb is extensively used in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Indian, South Asian, Latin American, Chinese, African and Southeast Asian cuisine.
Considered to be rich in various food elements, the coriander leaves contain protein, fat, minerals, fiber, carbohydrates, and water. The minerals and vitamins include: vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, sodium, manganese, magnesium, potassium, selenium, and oxalic acid.
- Reduce High Cholesterol Levels with Coriander – Linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and ascorbic acid (vitamin-C) contained in coriander are very effective in reducing the cholesterol level in the blood and also reduce the cholesterol deposition along the inner walls of the arteries and veins.
